Major Gordon's Room
Major Gordon, British Army, would seem to have been the first owner of Bembridge House. There was a letter from a builder in 1863 that read
" Honoured Members of the Planning Board, I humbly request permission to modify Major Gordon's Villa in Osborn Road. Your Obedient Servant, C. Tull, Builder."
Permission was granted ! Not like today's Building Regulations etc. The modification was to fit an outside W.C. for the servants.
There is no mention of him in any census but he certainly had staff who would have occupied the rear of the house. What we now call The Guests Quarters !!
